Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Puppy Companion (“the app”, “we”) collects and uses your personal data, and the rights you have under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Dutch data-protection law. We keep the app and this policy deliberately small: we collect only what the app needs to work, and we never sell your data.

1. Who is responsible (data controller)

Puppy Companion is an independent project operated by an individual developer based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, through mondspace.com. For any privacy question or to exercise your rights, contact privacy@mondspace.com.

2. What data we collect

• Account & identity — when you sign in with Google, we receive your name and verified email address. We use these to create and recognise your account.
• Puppy information you enter — your puppy's name, birthdate, breed, gender, weight, body condition, microchip/registration numbers, medical notes, contacts (e.g. vet) and any photos you upload.
• Activity logs — the care events you tap to log (meals, potty, walks, treats, etc.), with their timestamps, and items shared within your family.
• Technical data — a session cookie and a consent cookie that keep you signed in and remember your acceptance of this policy. We do not use advertising or third-party analytics cookies.

3. Why we use it and our legal basis

• To provide the app (your account, logs, plan, journal and records) — performance of our agreement with you (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)).
• Google sign-in and the AI tip feature — your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)), which you give at sign-in and can withdraw at any time.
• To keep the service secure and working — our legitimate interest in operating a safe, functioning app (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).

4. AI-generated tips

The app can show a “puppy tip” generated by an artificial-intelligence model via OpenRouter. In line with the EU AI Act's transparency requirements, we clearly label these tips as AI-generated. They are produced automatically, may be inaccurate or incomplete, and are not veterinary or medical advice — always consult your vet for health decisions.

To protect your privacy (data minimisation), we send the model only your puppy's non-identifying information (such as name, age, breed, weight and today's logged activities). We do not send your name, email or any account identifier. OpenRouter processes this request to return a tip; the request may be handled on servers outside the EU, under appropriate safeguards. We store generated tips in our database so they can be shown again and for transparency.

5. Where your data is stored and who processes it

Your data is stored in a database hosted on Fly.io in a European region (Amsterdam). We rely on a small number of processors to run the app:

• Fly.io — application hosting and database storage (EU region).
• Google — sign-in / authentication.
• OpenRouter — generating AI tips (may involve a transfer outside the EU/EEA, under appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses).

6. How long we keep it

We keep your account and puppy data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account (see your rights below), we erase your personal data and your puppy's records from our database. Backups, where they exist, are rotated and overwritten in the ordinary course.

7. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, restrict or object to the processing of your data, the right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”), the right to data portability, and the right to withdraw consent at any time. You can:

• Delete everything yourself from your Account page — this erases your account and your puppy's data.
• Email us at privacy@mondspace.com to access or export your data, or for any other request.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).

8. Children

The app is intended for adults caring for a puppy and is not directed at children.

9. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes we will update the version above and ask you to accept the updated policy at your next sign-in.
